RAIPUR REGION OF CLC(C)’s ORGANIZATION

A region in the organization of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi was created originally in 1951 with its headquarters at Nagpur, which was State Capital of the erstwhile State of Madhya Pradesh. Consequent upon re-organization of States, the office of RLC(C) was shifted from Nagpur to Jabalpur in the middle of 1957. The State of Chhattisgarh was formed as the 26th state of India on 01.11.2000 with bifurcation of the then State of Madhya Pradesh. Keeping in view the need for more cohesive labour administration in Central Sphere and better coordination with the State Government in this newly formed State of Chhattisgarh, the RLC(C) was posted at Raipur, the State Capital of Chhattisgarh vide Government of India order dated 07.02.2005. The Government of India vide their order dated 02.05.2005 defined the jurisdiction and area of responsibility of the independent region for the State of Chhattisgarh under RLC(C), Raipur. The new region assumed fully functional status as an independent region on 01.10.2005.

Thus the present jurisdiction of Raipur Region consists of the entire state of Chhattisgarh comprising 18 civil districts. 

The State of Chhattisgarh is having various types establishments in Central Sphere viz- Mines, Banking and Insurance Companies, Railways, Cement, etc. These include Bailadila Iron Ore Complex (Mines) of NMDC Ltd., Iron Ore and Limestone-Dolomite Mines of Bhilai Steel Plant, South East Central Railways, East Coast Railways, South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. and NTPC Ltd., among the major ones. Besides, there are major industrial establishments like Bhilai Steel Plant which fall in the State Sphere for the purpose of industrial relations and most of the labour laws but within the Central Sphere for the purpose of Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946. However, The state of Chhattisgarh being very rich in mineral wealth, the profile of industries in Central Sphere is dominated by mining establishments.
